Manhattan, KS - There is late-breaking news from Cat Town this morning as the defending Lone Star Alliance Division III Champions announced their ascension to MCLA Division II status for the 2027 season.
“The Cats are moving up to Division II?” Coughed Wildcat Alum Tim Van Wye as he sent his Cheerios across the breakfast table when the headline broke. “Where’s the Lax Flash! I want to know what’s going on!”
Ain’t we in luck, the latest edition is already here.
KSU Lacrosse:
K-State Lacrosse will compete in the MCLA’s Division II Lone Star Alliance conference for the 2027 season team leadership announced late last week. The move follows a long-established goal to return to DII play but it arrives sooner than originally planned.
"We want to compete at the Division II level.” Senior Advisor to the President Cody Kilgore explained during the announcement. “We realize this requires a stronger commitment but we believe we are prepared to make that commitment.”
The decision was made in the wake of the logistical difficulty a Division III schedule demanded as most of the LSA’s Division III members live south of the Oklahoma border and travel presented a significant obstacle. The elevation to DII brings the schedule closer to Manhattan and it reignites several traditional rivalries.
“Missouri State, Creighton, Nebraska. It’ll be fun playing them in conference games again.” Kilgore said. “It’s a big opportunity for us and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
KSU Lacrosse Alumni Organization:
The Senior Guard thought they’d be rolling up against a DIII squad ready for the Holiday Break in less than two weeks’ time but the 26 th Alumni Game quickly went turbo with the announcement of K-State’s return to Division II play.
“Sure, it’s going to affect how we prepare.” Admits Alumni Coach and Chief Talent Recruiter Ben Shields . “The game plan remains the same – win, hustle, shoot and shoot again, but the actual implementation of it might change. Maybe more shooting?”
The Alumni Game is scheduled for Saturday, November 14 at 2pm at World War I Memorial Stadium and Coach Shields promises his boys will be ready.
“Everyone has their playbook and we’ll be following traditional Alumni rules so that means no two-handed ground balls, very limited passing and if you even think you have a chance at a shot, we’re not talking about goals, just shots, but if you think you have a shot…you better take it.”
Shootout for Soldiers:
What’s new with our friends at Shootout for Soldiers? It’s November and Veterans Day is fast approaching. To continue the mission and to keep the fires burning, SFS is hosting the annual Wall Ball for Warfighters campaign and anyone with a stick, a wall and a ball is encouraged to join.
Check out the details and get on the wall!
The Medicine Game League (Youth Lacrosse in MHK):
Plans are underway to host a youth clinic in conjunction with the KSU Lacrosse Alumni Game on November 14 and Manhattan is encouraged to join the fun. Youth sticks will be provided and the idea is to enjoy the game by trying it out.
“It’s really hard to learn to swim without getting wet.” MGL Chief Enthusiast Jed Dunham observed. “We’re offering a free leap into the pool where anyone can join and everyone is welcome. Give the Medicine Game a try.”
The Medicine Game League FREE Youth Clinic will take place immediately following the KSU Lacrosse Alumni Game.
Conclusion:
It is a beautiful day for lacrosse. Enjoy it!
Stay Steady Out There
